In its seventh consecutive edition, the Make Music Cyprus festival is expanding, doubling in duration and reach. Every year, on June 21, it celebrates World Music Day and joins another 1,000 cities across the world with free, live music performances, supporting the local scene. Until now, the festival has happened in Nicosia yet this year it extends to Larnaca as well for the first time.
“Make Music Cyprus is a community-driven, volunteer-powered initiative, created by the people, for the people,” say organisers. “This year, it brings together over 350 participants – professional and amateur musicians, students and music lovers – regardless of level, age, gender, genre or nationality. Unlike a traditional music festival, it includes dozens of volunteers and thousands of visitors.”
Larnaca’s event will take place this Saturday4 at Zouhouri Square, where the artists will perform from 6pm until midnight. Then, on June 21, officially World Music Day, 14 locations in Nicosia’s city centre will fill with even more performances from 5pm until late evening.
“From squares, parks, and pedestrian streets to courtyards and alleyways, every corner becomes a stage,” add organisers. “Hundreds of musicians of all ages, experience levels and musical styles come together in a celebration of inclusion. All events are free and open to the public. It’s a festival by the people, for the people, and you can be a part of it too.”
So, get ready to witness over 350 musicians perform music of all styles and for all ages. The event will also include interactive activities, food and drink options as well as awareness booths by the ADHD Association and bone marrow sampling by the Karaiskakio Foundation.
