From June 1 to September 30, the use of any tool, device, or equipment that may cause heat, flame, or sparks within a state forest or in a 2km perimeter around the forest, requires a permit, according to the Forestry Department.
For permission to use the above, the public is requested to contact a forestry station within the area where they will be used.
During the period from June to September, the use of such objects is punishable by a fine of €2,000.
According to the Forestry Law of 2012, causing a fire within state forests or in its 2km perimeter constitutes an offense punishable by imprisonment for up to 12 years or a fine of up to €100,000 – or both.
The forestry department urges anyone who notices smoke or fire in or near a forest to inform to nearest forestry station by calling 1407 (forestry department) or 112.
