In the wake of the Israeli attack on Iran, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos held a series of calls on Friday evening, speaking with his counterparts from both Iran and Israel amongst others.
“I expressed concern about the rapidly evolving situation in the region,” Kombos said of his call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in a post on X.
Regarding his conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Kombos said, “We exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in the region.”
Additionally, Kombos said he held talks with the foreign ministers of Palestine, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.
Kombos said that he had reaffirmed Cyprus’ commitment to regional stability and cooperation in his talk with the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Mohammad Mustafa.
In his conversation with Lebanese counterpart Youssef Rajji, he said they exchanged views on de-escalation efforts and ways to promote regional stability.
Kombos also informed the European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas about his contacts with his counterparts in the region, stressing the need for “intensive diplomacy and dialogue” as the only way to foster regional stability and de-escalation.
“Cyprus will continue to do all it can in this respect,” the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X.

Kombos had earlier on Friday urged all parties to show maximum restraint. President Nikos Christodoulides also expressed hope that there would be no further escalation, stressing that Cyprus remains uninvolved in the conflict.
“Cyprus is not involved in any way and its role, as always, is stabilising and humanitarian,” Christodoulides said, adding that the country stood ready to assist with evacuations and initiating an emergency security council was convened following Israel’s strikes on Iran.
The government activated the Estia plan to support the safe transit of foreign nationals through Cyprus, while police increased security at airports, ports, and areas frequented by Israeli citizens, including Jewish-owned businesses.
