Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will brief the ‘parliament’ in the north on Tuesday on the Cyprus issue and the Israel-Iran war as he accused President Nikos Christodoulides of putting the island in danger with his policies.

Tatar is to speak about regional developments, which he said had reached a critical stage. He will also talk about “the increasingly negative policy of the Greek Cypriot leadership”, especially after the recent informal Geneva meeting on the Cyprus issue.

As far as regional developments go, Tatar said Christodoulides was responsible for putting Cyprus in the crosshairs.

“The military agreements, armament activities and unilateral actions of the Greek Cypriot leadership and especially Mr Christodoulides with certain countries in recent times have put the entire island of Cyprus in serious danger,” he said.

“I have warned him many times. I said that this approach would endanger the security of the island. At the point we have reached today, the reckless steps taken by Christodoulides, to the extent that he took a position in the conflicts, have led the island to an area of indirect threat. These developments worry not only the Turkish Cypriot people, but also the Greek Cypriot people,” he argued.

Tatar said that all necessary measures for the security of the Turkish Cypriot people had been put into effect and developments were being monitored.

He called on Christodoulides to “stop acting as if there are only the Greek Cypriot people on the island of Cyprus”.

Stop being part of the tensions and endangering the island of Cyprus for the sake of creating a personal image for the purpose of achieving political gain.”

The security of Cyprus, he added, can never be ensured through unilateral actions. It could only be achieved through joint action and mutual consent between the two sides.
