A fire in the bedroom of a ground-floor apartment in Pallouriotissa and another in the Avlona area buffer zone, were the among incidents the Fire Service was called to over the past 24 hours, it was announced on Tuesday.
The Fire Service responded to 28 calls for help across Cyprus, 11 of which were fires, 15 special services and two false alarms.
At 7.24am on Monday, the Fire Service sent three fire engines to the apartment in Pallouriotissa.
The fire, was placed under control by 7.40am, caused extensive damage to the bedroom.
The resident evacuated the flat in time.
The fire was caused by smoking in bed.
At 4.45pm on Monday, two fire engines and a mobile firefighting unit were sent into the buffer zone in Avlona. The Forestry Department and volunteer group SupportCY also assisted with a fire engine and a mobile unit.
The fire was placed under control at 6.28pm, after burning a hectare of dry and low vegetation, canes, orchard trees and waste.
A tractor was also damaged in the fire.
