The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for academic collaboration, joint research and shared initiatives. The agreement was signed by Dr Wassim El Hajj, rector of AUB Mediterraneo, and Professor Achilles C. Emilianides, president of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, during a ceremony at AUB Mediterraneo in Paphos.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate on joint research projects, co-organise academic events and pursue external funding opportunities to support research and scientific advancement. The partnership also includes exchanging knowledge, best practices, and expertise to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and academic exchange.

“This partnership reflects AUB Mediterraneo’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and contributing to Cyprus’ growing role as a hub for research and higher education,” said Dr Wassim El Hajj. “By joining forces, we open new opportunities for our faculty, researchers and students to engage in meaningful scholarship that serves both institutions and the broader community.”
Professor Achilles C. Emilianides hailed the broader reach enabled by the agreement: “This MoU lays the foundation for a productive collaboration that promotes academic excellence, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and advances science, letters and arts, both locally and internationally,” he noted.
This agreement is part of both institutions’ broader efforts to strengthen academic networks and advance research that addresses contemporary challenges while further positioning Cyprus as a centre for research and higher education in the region.
