If you are staying put in Nicosia this June and are a movie buff, this event series at a café in the old town is one to remember. For yet another summer, book store and reading café To Erma transforms its cosy courtyard filled with colourful plant pots, fairy lights and wooden chairs into a charming open-air cinema. Just two evenings of the moving image, emotions, fresh air and stars await.
One screening has already taken place, while two more Monday cinema nights remain. On Monday, June 23, Los Golfos (The Delinquents), directed by Carlos Saura, will be screened. The film is a dramatic look at 1960s Madrid youth through the eyes of a group of teenagers dreaming of a better life.
Then on June 30, the film No Dogs or Italians Allowed by Alain Ughetto will be screened. This is a historically based animated film that tells the story of an Italian family’s migration to France, seen through the eyes of a grandson. When it was released in 2022, it received 13 wins and 7 film nominations, including the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature.
The screenings are free to attend yet reservations via phone are required. Bring a light jacket, a curious spirit, and enjoy a cinematic evening under the stars.
