Emerging young musicians and professional artists coming together on stage is what is next for the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Preparations are already underway for its end of June concert when the orchestra will wrap up another rich and fruitful artistic season with the Cyprophonia 5 – Side by Side concert.

On June 26, orchestra musicians will be joined by the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, stepping onto the Nicosia Municipal Theatre stage at 8.30pm. Around one hundred professional and young musicians will join forces, performing three masterworks with heightened passion, under the baton of the distinguished Cypriot maestro Petros Stylianou.

Τhe concert will open with Nimrod from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a solemn, yet deeply emotional piece of music that conveys the nobility and depth of character of Augustus J. Jaeger, a close friend and supporter of Elgar’s work.

The featured soloist in Camille Saint-Saens’ Cello concerto no. 1 in A minor is the talented young cellist Vasilios Argyridis, principal cellist of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Since its debut in 1873, the concerto has become a cornerstone of the cello repertoire, beloved by both performers and audiences alike for its thrilling blend of passion and technical brilliance.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s captivating symphonic suite Scheherazade, op. 35 – inspired by tales from One Thousand and One Nights – is an unsurpassable masterpiece of musical storytelling, mesmerizing listeners with its exotic and sensual atmosphere, evocative themes, and lush orchestration, wrapping up the evening.
