Need an excuse for a village road trip? Flasou is organising the 5th Traditional Festival ‘Piso Sta Palia’ on September 20, with a jam-packed day of festivities, entertainment and rural Cypriot character. Get ready for an afternoon with scenes, sounds and aromas from a bygone era, remembering the Cyprus of yesterday.

The festival will welcome guests from 4.30pm onwards where participants of all ages will find something fun to do. On the music front, singer Stefanos Pelekanis and his band will offer live melodies from the Greek and Cypriot repertoire while the Folklore Group of Psimolofou will perform traditional dances.

Adding even more of a local flair to the festival will be a tsiattista duel by Christos Karagiannis and Panikos Mouskovias, entertaining visitors with one of the oldest forms of Cypriot poetry and song.

Meanwhile, the courtyard of Flasou-Linou Primary School will transform into an open workshop of folk art and flavour with live demonstrations of pottery, basket weaving and the making of halloumi and other delicacies. All of the activities aim at showcasing the beauty of Cypriot culture and crafts-making in an effort to keep traditions alive within younger generations as well. Best of all, are the free treats and traditional goodies that will be passed around.
