Residents in parts of Lakatamia, including the Lakatamia, Tseri, and Anthoupoli districts, as well as the community of Ergates, are experiencing water supply disruptions.
The interruption is caused by a fault in a water pipeline managed by the water development department (ΤΑΥ), which feeds water to the reservoirs of the Nicosia water board (ΕΟΑ) and other communities in Nicosia district outside the board’s limits. The prolonged repair work by the water development department has exhausted the available water reserves in the ΕΟΑ reservoirs serving the affected areas.
ΤΑΥ is working to restore the pipeline, but no precise timeline for completion has been announced. Since its establishment in July 2024, the Nicosia water board has assessed the capacity of existing local reservoirs. The board has constructed a new, larger GLS-type reservoir to supply water to Lakatamia.
The new facility is expected to become operational before the end of the year. Officials say it will increase water autonomy in case of supply interruptions from ΤΑΥ, extending reserve capacity from 13 to 37 hours. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise residents to use water sparingly while repairs are underway.
