The musical highlight of this year’s Weeks of the German Language is the extraordinary concert, featuring the renowned German jazz trio Tango Transit: Martin Wagner (accordion), Hanns Höhn (bass) and Andreas Neubauer (drums).
The Jazz Trio Tango Transit in Concert event, takes place on Wednesday, November 19 at Kasteliotissa Hall in Nicosia.
The musicians will explore the rich tradition of folk and children’s songs from the German-speaking world – melodies known and loved across Germany, Austria and Switzerland – and reinterpret them in surprising and original ways.
Familiar melodies are transformed into energetic soundscapes infused with jazz, rock, funk and world music – playful, virtuosic and full of passion.
The evening’s showstopper will be their collaboration with Cypriot musicians Ermis Michael (guitar) and Vassilis Philipou (voice, ney). Together they will present unique jazz interpretations of folk songs from Cyprus.
This musical bridge connects tradition with modernity and local sounds with openness, creating a truly unique concert experience.
With more than 500 concerts across Europe and beyond, the trio has earned a reputation for their electrifying live performances and innovative style.
Critics describe their art as “wickedly good music in the best sense – breath-taking virtuosity, rhythmic precision and instrumental mastery that leaves audiences spellbound”.
Their concerts are celebrated for being both exhilarating and emotionally moving, with a style that is as powerful as it is subtle and poetic.
