Eurobank on Wednesday announced that it renewed its cooperation agreement with the non-profit organisation Cyprus Seeds for a seventh consecutive year in January 2026, reaffirming its long-term commitment to innovation, scientific excellence and entrepreneurship in Cyprus.
The partnership aims to support the commercialisation of innovative scientific research produced by universities, research institutes and Centres of Excellence across the country.
Within this framework, Cyprus Seeds provides research teams with grants of up to €50,000, guidance from experienced international mentors, business training and networking opportunities with investors abroad.
Since its launch, the 18-month support programme of Cyprus Seeds has attracted applications from 23 universities, research centres and Centres of Excellence in Cyprus. In addition, the programme has supported 24 research teams to date.
Organisations that have received support include the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology, the Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, the University of Nicosia and the Frederick Research Center.
Support has also been extended to the Centres of Excellence CYENS, EMME-CARE, Eratosthenes and KIOS.
Furthermore, Cyprus Seeds has contributed to the creation of six startup companies and one licensing agreement.
It has also strengthened the ability of teams to secure competitive funding from research and innovation programmes.
At the same time, the organisation acts as a bridge connecting Cyprus with the Greek and Cypriot diaspora, which supports Cyprus Seeds through funding and international connections.
The work and strategic partnerships of Cyprus Seeds have established the organisation as a trusted partner in the international innovation ecosystem.
This status was underscored by distinctions received in 2025. Cyprus Seeds was recognised by the Financial Times as one of the Leading Startup Hubs in Europe.
It was also awarded the Startup Ecosystem Star Award by the International Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Mind the Bridge.
For Eurobank, investment in research and innovation is an integral part of its strategy for sustainable economic growth, enhanced competitiveness and increased resilience of the economic model.
Through its cooperation with Cyprus Seeds, the bank continues to actively support scientific excellence and startups.
This support facilitates their connection with the business community and generates multiple economic and social benefits.
“The long-standing support of Eurobank allows us to empower Cypriot scientists to transform their research into solutions with real impact,” said Maria Markidou Georgiadou, chief executive officer of Cyprus Seeds.
“With this renewed commitment, we continue to promote deep-tech innovation and the commercialisation of research for the benefit of the scientific community and the economy,” she added.
“We are grateful to Eurobank for sharing the vision of Cyprus Seeds,” she said.
