The construction of a €6.7 million multi-storey car park in Paralimni dominates a list of projects set to get underway in 2026, its mayor said on Monday.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, mayor Giorgos Nikolettos described 2026 as a year of “development intensity” for the Paralimni-Deryneia municipality.

He said projects of around €40 million will address social policies, sports, cultural, urban renewal, traffic infrastructure and sustainable development.

The multi-storey parking project is already 35 per cent completed, Nikolettos said. The project is expected to significantly alleviate the urban centre’s parking issue, with around 300 parking spots.

He said “the fourth phase of the coastal pedestrian walkway will also be implemented, at a cost of €6 million.”

He said “important road safety and traffic congestion relief projects are being promoted”, including the roundabout on the Protaras – Cape Greco Avenue and further traffic lights and resurfacing of roads.

Meanwhile, “a panoramic elevator will be installed at the chapel of Prophet Elias. This will be a unique viewing point for the area.”

In Deryneia, a cultural centre will be created in addition to a green spot and the upgrade of the Pavlos Liasidis park.

In Acheritou, work on the €820,000 linear park is at an advanced stage.

Since 2025 Paralimni municipality has spent over €10 million on public works.
