The number of people who have been repatriated from the Middle East to Cyprus since the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East eight days ago has reached 950, the foreign ministry said on Sunday.
It said the majority of that figure is made up of Cypriot citizens and members of their families, with others including permanent residents of Cyprus and citizens of other European Union member states.
Meanwhile, it said that it will “continue to provide consular assistance to Cypriot citizens who have been affected and are in countries of the region, as well as beyond, with the aim of their return to Cyprus”.
Last week, the Cyprus Mail had been informed that a little over 2,000 Cypriot nationals in the United Arab Emirates registered their presence through the government’s Connect2CY online platform in the aftermath of the outbreak of the conflict.
However, it is believed that the actual number of Cypriot nationals in the country may be as high as 6,000, with smaller numbers of Cypriots living in neighbouring countries.
