A Noverna Analytics poll conducted on behalf of the newspaper Politis on Saturday revealed that Greek Cypriot attitudes towards the new Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman remain largely negative.
Overall, 41 per cent expressed unfavourable views, 26 per cent were neutral, and only 17 per cent held a positive opinion, while 16 per cent did not respond.
“Despite the change of leadership in the Turkish Cypriot community, a strong climate of trust has not yet been created on the Greek Cypriot side,” the survey concluded.
The poll, carried out from February 26 to March 11 among 1,020 eligible voters in the Republic, also examined perceptions of Erhurman’s honesty in his intent to solve the Cyprus problem compared with that of his predecessor, Ersin Tatar.
A majority of 56 per cent felt there was no difference, 24 per cent considered Erhurman more honest, and 6 per cent less honest.
Party affiliation shaped responses strongly, with Akel voters the most positive; 32 per cent expressed favourable views and 43 per cent said he was more honest than Tatar.
Among Disy, Diko, Elam, Edek and Dipa voters, negative or neutral views predominated, with Elam supporters being particularly critical, 67 per cent expressing a negative assessment and 79 per cent seeing no difference with Tatar.
