Returning for the third consecutive year is the Palestinian Independent Film Festival which will take place simultaneously across five cities in Cyprus and Greece this spring. On May 8-10, the festival collaborates with cultural spaces and grassroots collectives to bring exquisite cinema to audiences.
The towns of Agios Nikolaos and Chania in Crete take part in the festival as do Ikaria. In Cyprus, Synergeio Theatre in Limassol and United for Palestine in Nicosia will collaborate with the festival to present a rich agenda.
Apart from the main festival screenings, each city will host both pre-and-post festival events spanning discussions, gatherings and workshops and community-based cultural activities. The three-day programme is yet to be announced but will include a curated selection of Palestinian films, reflecting this year’s festival theme.
Staying true to its mission to be independent and operate without corporate or institutional funding, the festival is entirely non-profit and volunteer run. To support its financial needs, the festival has set up a crowdfunding campaign which raises proceeds that cover the screening fees for filmmakers, subtitling and the organisational needs of the different locations.
