The University of Nicosia announced this week that it will host a student event titled “Become a Merchant Navy Officer for a Day” at the BSM Maritime Training Centre at the Limassol Marina.

The event will take place on April 7, 2026, between 14:00 and 16:00, offering participants a focused introduction to careers in the maritime sector.

Organisers said the initiative is designed to provide students with insight into the maritime profession and training pathways, particularly through the university’s specialised academic programmes.

The event will be held at the BSM Maritime Training Centre, located at Limassol Marina, a key hub for maritime training and professional development in Cyprus.

According to the announcement, the event is aimed at students in the first, second and third years of lyceum, as well as those attending technical and vocational schools and recognised private schools under the Ministry of Education.

The organisers explained that participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Science, which covers a broad range of subjects essential to a career at sea.

These include navigation, ship stability, marine engineering and maritime law, forming what was described as a comprehensive maritime education for aspiring officers.

The programme also emphasises practical learning, offering students the chance to gain hands-on experience through placements with reputable shipping companies.

This practical training component is intended to strengthen graduates’ employment prospects and facilitate smoother entry into the maritime industry.

The university said the initiative reflects its broader commitment to supporting career readiness and connecting education with industry needs.

Students interested in attending are encouraged to complete their online registration through the official link provided by the university.
