Police in Larnaca are investigating an attempted murder case after a 22-year-old man allegedly used his car to deliberately strike another man outside a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to the head of the Larnaca CID, Giorgos Chrysostomou, the incident occurred at around 3am and involved the suspect and the victim, who is reportedly the former partner of the suspect’s girlfriend.
Both men were accompanied by groups of friends inside the venue, where an argument broke out.
Nightclub security staff escorted the suspect out of the premises following the altercation.
Chrysostomou said that as the victim was leaving with his group, he was informed that the suspect was puncturing the tyres of his car.
The victim approached the vehicle, at which point the suspect allegedly got into his own car and drove directly at him with increasing speed.
“The suspect struck the victim with the front of the vehicle, throwing him onto the roof and then onto the road,” he said.
The injured man was taken to hospital by friends, where he was found to have sustained head abrasions and a knee injury. He was later discharged.
The 22-year-old suspect has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
He is expected to be brought before the Larnaca district court on Tuesday for a remand hearing.
