Police in Larnaca are investigating two separate incidents involving injuries to minors caused by firecrackers, with a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old both receiving medical treatment before being discharged.
According to the police, the first incident occurred at around 9.40am on Sunday. The 14-year-old was taken to Larnaca general hospital, where he was found to have sustained superficial lacerations and burns to a finger on his right hand and to his eye.
After receiving first aid, he was discharged.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, police said.
The second incident took place at around midday in the yard of a church in the Larnaca district and involved a 17-year-old.
Police said that while at the site of a traditional Easter bonfire (lambradjia), the teenager allegedly attempted to re-ignite unused factory-made firecrackers that had failed to explode.
The attempt resulted in an explosion, causing injuries.
He was also taken to Larnaca general hospital, where he was treated for burns to his right hand before being discharged.
