Police in Larnaca are searching for a 24-year-old man after a 19-year-old was seriously injured in a stabbing at a nightclub, in a case being investigated as attempted murder.

According to police, the incident took place late on Sunday at a venue along the Larnaca promenade.

Police said the altercation began when “apparently due to the crowd, both individuals crashed into each other” leading to a confrontation during which the victim was struck in the face.

As he turned away to return to his table, “he felt a burning sensation on the back right side of his body and realised that he was bleeding.”

The victim was taken to Larnaca general hospital with a ruptured kidney, yet has since recovered and been discharged as of early Monday.

Officers examined the scene and CCTV footage, which led to the identification of a suspect.

An arrest warrant has been issued yet the man remains at large.

Police said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to locate and arrest the suspect.
