There is no doubt that Cyprus is beautiful in spring. The fields turn green and the trees blossom with colourful flowers, seeds and fruit. It is not only Cyprus nature we get to enjoy this season however, as for the last few years at the Kampos Sakura Park, Japanese cherry blossoms also make an appearance each spring.
This Saturday, the blossom festival returns to Kampos-Tsakistra for the third time, inviting the public to witness up close the beautiful and fragrant Japanese cherry tree blossoms. Opening at 11am, the festival will have a line-up of special activities for the day.
The Embassy of Japan, which helped establish the park in 2022, will take part once again, serving Cherry Tofu, an original sweet that is a sesame delicacy from traditional Japanese temple cuisine. The treat is made from homemade cherry jam from Kampos, especially created for the event by a chef.
The embassy will also showcase a traditional Japanese coat worn during festivals, named happi, worn by performers and participants alike. Visitors will get a chance to try it on. Other activities include a live music performance by Eleni Hadjiafxenti and Nicos Evangelou, a children’s caricature session with artist Sotos Voskarides and a demonstration of traditional squash decoration with Giannakis Ioannou.
