A new incident of unauthorised activity was recorded on Sunday morning in the Avlona area, when ‘a Turkish farmer’ reportedly attempted to cut hay in the UN-controlled buffer zone without the required permits.

The incident occurred at around 11am, when the man was seen using a tractor and mowing equipment in the area.

Speaking to local authorities, Avlona community leader Menelaos Savva confirmed that the individual is the owner of the specific plots of land in question.

However, the area has been designated as “frozen” by the United Nations, meaning that no permits are granted for agricultural or other activities, even to lawful landowners.

According to Savva, the individual appears to have taken advantage of the situation, noting that similar actions have been reported in the past.

United Nations forces intervened promptly and removed the man from the area, he added.
