A total of 36 buildings in Limassol were declared as “dangerous” by the Limassol district organisation (EOA) on Monday as inspections of buildings were carried out in various parts of the island.
Limassol EOA chairman Yiannis Tsouloftas said members of the EOA have in the last few days marked the buildings in question with stickers in both English and Greek as a measure to warn the public.
Referring to the evacuation letter sent to residents of an apartment complex in Yermasoyia on Friday, he said the deadline is today and that, if the tenants do not vacate their apartments, the organisation will immediately begin legal proceedings to obtain a court order to evacuate the building.
In Larnaca, a similar survey of buildings was carried out. “This initiative aims to assess the condition of already registered and allegedly dangerous buildings and to review their degree of danger,” the EOA said.
According to the EOA, the inspections will focus on the cases classified as most dangerous, amounting to a total of approximately 15 to 20 buildings in the area which have been deemed “high risk”.
