Bowlers took centre stage in Week 4 of the 2026 Cyprus Cricket T20 Cup presented by Hurry Curry, as Sri Lankan Lions Limassol and MSN Sport Club each recorded their second victories, while Larnaca Kings’ difficult start to the season continued.
In the opening match, MSN Sport Club edged past Lankan Sport Club with a 4-wicket win. Chasing 112, MSN struggled early and were reduced to 48/5, putting pressure on opener Akila De Silva, who made 40. However, Viraj (25) and Vihan (20) steadied the innings with a crucial seventh-wicket partnership, guiding the team to victory with 4.4 overs remaining. Lankan Sport Club captain Tharanga Pathirana impressed with four wickets and was also the top scorer for his side with 22. Vihan capped off a strong all-round performance, having earlier taken 3/16 from his four overs.
In the second game, Larnaca Kings’ poor run continued as they fell to Nicosia Capitals by three wickets. Larnaca posted 98/7, despite a promising 37-run opening stand from Muhammad Ikram and Yasir Raza. The middle order struggled, with only Lovedeep Singh Bhullar offering resistance, scoring 26 off 35 balls. For Nicosia Capitals, Sohidul led the bowling with 3/11, supported by Hasan Munshi’s 2/20. In reply, Nicosia Capitals also found themselves in trouble at 44/6, but a fifty partnership between Mithu and Ikbal turned the game around, sealing the win with 5.5 overs to spare.
In the final match of the day, Sri Lankan Lions comfortably defeated Global 75 Cricketers by six wickets. Kavindu Maduranga continued his excellent form, contributing with both bat and ball, alongside Rawindu Hewagamage (3/21), to restrict Global 75 Cricketers to just 88. Kavindu delivered standout bowling figures of 3/7. He then added 47 runs for the opening wicket with former national player Sadun Chamal (25) and remained unbeaten on 25 as the target was chased down in just 8.3 overs.
Earlier in the week, Cyprus national team captain Iresha Chathurani made history by becoming the first Cypriot woman cricketer to play at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Representing the ICC Europe Women’s XI against MCC Women during the annual Women’s Day celebrations at the home of cricket on Friday, she played a key role in a 47-run victory. Iresha who received a generous kit sponsorship from Newbery Cricket for the event, scored 2 not out and delivered an impressive 3/14 in four overs, along with taking a catch to dismiss MCC’s top scorer Lucy Western. In the second match of the series at Wormsley Cricket Ground on Saturday, she again shone with two wickets as ICC Europe secured another win as they won the two match series 2-0.
Looking ahead, 14 teams will compete next week in the T20 cup, with the ICC World T20 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifiers just under four weeks away. Cyprus is set to host nine other teams in the competition for a place in the 2027 regional finals. Spectator registration is now open at www.cricket.cy
