An 81-year-old male prisoner died in hospital on Tuesday night, the justice ministry announced on Wednesday.

The ministry said the man had been “facing serious health problems” prior to his death, and that he was undergoing regular kidney dialysis.

He was serving a six-year sentence, having been convicted of what the ministry described as “sexual offences”.

The police have been informed of the man’s death, with a statutory autopsy expected to follow.
