Police arrested 11 people on Sunday night during coordinated operations carried out in key urban areas across Cyprus as part of ongoing efforts to prevent serious crime and enhance public safety.
According to a police statement, the arrests were made in connection with offences including illegal possession of drugs, illegal possession of anabolic substances, possession of drugs with intent to supply, money laundering, unlawful possession of property, carrying a knife, possession of duty-unpaid goods, theft and illegal residence.
The operations formed part of organised patrols targeting areas identified as vulnerable to criminal activity, with the aim of preventing serious offences, maintaining public order and increasing the public’s sense of security.
During the overnight campaign, officers stopped and checked 554 drivers and 126 passengers. Police also carried out inspections at 43 premises as part of efforts to combat criminality, resulting in eight reports of offences.
Traffic enforcement formed a significant part of the operation, with police issuing 399 traffic citations for various violations. In addition, 23 cases involving suspected traffic-related offences are under investigation.
Among the violations recorded were 104 speeding offences, police said.
As part of the checks, officers impounded 19 vehicles and conducted 69 alcohol tests, six of which resulted in reports for drink-driving offences. Four drivers also tested positive during preliminary roadside drug tests.
Police said the operations are part of an ongoing daily strategy aimed at preventing and suppressing crime through an increased police presence, targeted inspections and rapid operational action.
Authorities said the measures are intended to strengthen public safety, protect the public and safeguard public order.
