A seasonal low pressure system continues to affect the island, keeping temperatures well above average as Cyprus begins another hot week.

Monday will be mostly sunny, with southwesterly to northwesterly winds starting off light before strengthening to light to moderate, reaching force 3 to 4 Beaufort. Along the south coast, afternoon winds will become stronger at 4 to 5 Beaufort. Seas will be slight.

Temperatures will climb to around 40C inland34C along most coasts31C on the west and southwest coast, and 30C in the higher mountains.

Conditions will remain mostly clear overnight, although patches of low cloud are expected to develop along coastal areas later. Winds will ease to light southwesterly to northwesterly breezes, while the sea will be calm to slight.

Overnight temperatures will fall to around 21C inland23C on the coast, and 19C in the mountains.

The outlook remains unchanged through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with mostly sunny skies expected across the island.

Temperatures are forecast to remain well above the seasonal average through the middle of the week, meaning the heat is set to linger for several more days.
