A 16-year-old teenager was seriously injured in a car accident in Nicosia in the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred at around 2am, when a car driving on Grivas Digenis Avenue towards Larnaca Avenue struck the teenager, who was riding on a scooter.

The teen was seriously injured and taken to Nicosia general hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.

The vehicle involved was later located elsewhere at a different location.

The 27-year-old, believed to be the driver, was given an alcotest which showed blood alcohol 73µg, well above the legal alcohol limit of 22µg.
