There have been no further confirmed cases of foot and mouth disease (FMD), the veterinary association told the Cyprus Mail on Monday, describing the overall situation as stable.

“We have exceeded almost 800 samplings up to now, all of which are negative except the two known cases in Avgorou and Pentakomo which are under investigation,” head of the veterinary association Demetris Epaminondas said, adding that “other than that we are in a very good situation”.

He said that vaccinations were proceeding as planned with 100 per cent of vaccinations completed in Famagusta, almost all vaccinations completed in Larnaca and Nicosia and Limassol being at a “very good stage”.

“We are a bit behind in Paphos but we’re getting there and are expected to complete all vaccinations by the end of November,” he said.

Epaminondas also confirmed that there had been no further cullings, with the number of killed animals remaining at approximately 80,000.

FMD first broke out on the island in February 2026.
