British bases (SBA) police arrested 27 people for various offences over the past week as part of ongoing summer operations across the bases.

Police said coordinated operations in both the eastern and western SBAs were aimed at preventing and detecting crime, improving road safety and maintaining public order during the busy summer period.

A total of 158 fixed penalty notices and written cautions were issued for various traffic offences, while a further 17 cases involving more serious violations are under investigation.

Officers also carried out 73 breathalyser tests, with seven people testing positive.

The operations involved the SBA police marine unit, which recently acquired new jet skis to patrol beaches within the bases.

Dhekelia temporary superintendent Marcos Petrou said operations would continue throughout the week as the island enters the peak August holiday period.

“Officers and specialist units will be focusing on the periods and locations where their presence can have the greatest impact on public safety,” he said.

With more people expected to head to the coast over the weekend, Petrou also urged beachgoers to take precautions against theft.

“Don’t give thieves an easy opportunity. Keep valuables out of sight, lock your vehicles, and never leave personal belongings unattended on the beach,” he said.

Akrotiri temporary superintendent Melina Papagregoriou similarly urged people travelling during the August holiday period to secure their homes and belongings.

“As many people take advantage of the August holiday period, we encourage residents to take simple precautions to protect their homes, vehicles and personal belongings,” she said.

“Properties should be properly secured when left unattended, and valuables should not be left visible or unsecured in vehicles.

“Residents must remain vigilant within their communities and should report any suspicious activity to police. Taking a few simple preventative measures can significantly reduce opportunities for acquisitive crime during the holiday period.”
