Wizz Air partners with Mountain Games Cyprus 2026
Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has become the official airline partner of Mountain Games Cyprus 2026, boosting European accessibility for the flagship sporting event taking place next month.
The coordinator of the European project, the MountMed Institute, announced the new collaboration on Monday, as part of ongoing efforts to increase international participation in the scheme, which is funded by the Erasmus+ Sport Programme.
Under the agreement, Wizz Air will support the travel of athletes, volunteers, researchers, and visitors from ten European countries participating in the project’s consortium by using its extensive route network.
The initiative aims to make it easier for continental participants to reach Cyprus ahead of the main public event, scheduled to take place in the Troodos Mountains from September 23 to September 26, 2026, as part of the 12th European Week of Sport.
Securing an international carrier as the official airline is expected to broaden participation and attract visitors from across Europe while advancing goals focused on inclusion, sustainable mobility, and promoting the island’s mountainous areas for outdoor recreation.
“We are delighted to support Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 as the official airline partner of the event,” said Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air Olivia Harangozo.
“We believe in the power of sport to bring people and places together, and we are proud to help connect Europe with the mountains of Cyprus while supporting an initiative that promotes healthy lifestyles and the sustainable development of mountain communities,” Harangozo added.
Executive Director of the MountMed Institute and Project Coordinator Stavros Kazamias stated that the partnership represents an important milestone for the project by bringing athletes, visitors, and partners closer together.
“Accessibility is a key factor in the success of an event with such a strong European dimension, and this collaboration significantly strengthens our ability to welcome participants from across the continent,” Kazamias said.
Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 is a non-profit European sporting event bringing together 10 partner organisations from ten European nations, including sports federations, universities, and civil society groups.
The upcoming public gathering in the Troodos range will feature a wide range of activities centred around mountain biking, hiking, orienteering, and traditional games.
Organisers aim to use the sports, cultural, and educational programme to promote healthy lifestyles, foster social inclusion, and encourage sustainable regional development across mountain communities.
