Four people were arrested for various offences during overnight police operations on Sunday night, police said.

The arrests concerned offences including illegal residence in the Republic and traffic violations.

Police stopped 594 vehicles and checked 751 people travelling in them. Officers also inspected 36 premises, resulting in three reports.

Traffic checks resulted in 343 fines and a further four cases under investigation. Of the fines issued, 111 were for speeding, while 10 vehicles were impounded.

Police also carried out 122 breathalyser tests, resulting in five reports.

Five preliminary drug tests were also carried out, three of which returned positive results.
