Three presentations of the publication in Nicosia, Limassol and Athens this November

Tetraktys Films announces the successful completion of the first volume of the monumental two-volume publication “Voices and Memories of Asia Minor and Cyprus. They Do Not Fade, They Are Not Forgotten”, researched, written and edited by Dr Chrysanthos Chrysanthou, and coordinated by Stavros Papageorgiou.

The first volume, comprising 768 pages, is the result of extensive research conducted in Cyprus, Greece and Asia Minor and is rich in primary archival material, rare photographs and authentic testimonies. Its pages highlight the centuries-old relationship between Cyprus and Asia Minor, particularly with the cities along the southern coast of Asia Minor, including Antalya, Alanya, Mersin and others.

A special place is given to the story of the people of Asia Minor who, following the catastrophe of 1922, found refuge in Cyprus, either temporarily or permanently, making the island their second homeland. Among them was Anastasis Tosounoglou from Alanya, who put down roots in Cyprus, raised a family and left behind a cherished memory.

Throughout the publication, the historical, religious, educational, commercial and social ties between Cyprus and Asia Minor unfold: the life of the Greek community in Alanya; the events that led to the catastrophe; the arrival of the refugees in Cyprus; their ordeal in quarantine at the Dhekelia lazaretto; the care they received from Cypriots who came forward to support them; and their difficult struggle to make a new beginning.

As the publication’s researcher, author and editor, Dr Chrysanthos Chrysanthou, notes, Asia Minor and Cyprus followed “parallel lives”, sharing common roots in Greek culture as well as the painful experience of displacement. It is the hope of those behind the publication that it will serve as a “humble ark of historical memory”.

The publication is addressed to all those who carry family memories of displacement, as well as to researchers, scholars and readers wishing to gain a deeper understanding of an important chapter in the shared history of Cyprus and Asia Minor. The wealth of material led to the decision to prepare a second volume, which is expected to be completed in 2027.

The three presentations

The official presentation of the first volume will take place on Thursday, 5 November 2026, at 7:30 p.m., at the “Archangelos” Ceremonial Hall of the Cultural Foundation of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, in Nicosia. The Nicosia event on 5 November will be held under the auspices of the “Anastasis and Efrosyni Tosounoglou” Foundation.

This will be followed by a presentation of the publication in Limassol, at the 5th Limassol Book Fair, from 20 to 22 November 2026, while the November series of presentations will conclude in Athens, on 26 November 2026, at the House of Cyprus.

This significant publication was made possible through the sponsorship of Anna Tosounoglou-Christofi, President and Founder of the “Anastasis and Efrosyni Tosounoglou” Foundation, and is dedicated to the memory of her parents, as well as to all refugees from Asia Minor and Cyprus.
