A fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in a difficult to access area near Tala in Paphos, burning dry grass, low wild vegetation and several trees, the fire brigade said on Friday.

The fire in Vatouthkia area was reported at 12:54pm, prompting five fire engines from Paphos to assist the forestry department, which oversees the region.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by the terrain and strong winds.

Four aircraft were used to drop water on the fire.

Additional personnel were called in.

Authorities continued efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
