President Nicos Anastasiades, will receive the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Jane Holl Lute, at the Presidential Palace on Monday morning, it was announced on Friday.

Lute is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Sunday for contacts with the two community leaders for preparations ahead of an informal five-party summit to discuss the way forward as regards the Cyprus problem.

She is scheduled to meet Anastasiades at 11am on Monday and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar at 2.30pm on the same day.

Both leaders sent UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres letters with their positions on the process.

The government said Anastasiades’ letter contained suggestions on confidence-building measures (CBMs) aimed at boosting the prospects of a solution to the Cyprus problem based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation.

In his, Tatar said that in the light of new conditions in the region and in Cyprus, his aim was to establish a relationship of cooperation based on two sovereign states with equal international status.

Lute had separate meetings with the two leaders at the beginning of December.
