Cyprus telecommunications provider Cyta on Monday received the commemorative stamp issued by the postal services to celebrate its 60 years.

Cyprus post issued a collectible stamp to celebrate the authority’s 60-year operation on March 24. Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos submitted the stamp to Cyta president Rena Rouvitha Panou at Cyta’s central offices, during a small ceremony.

The stamp features an award-winning photograph by Cyta retiree Robert Antoniadis depicting the grounding point of the Aphrodite and Adonis submarine cables in Larnaca connecting Cyprus to Greece and Lebanon respectively in 1974.

“The comparison of its telecommunications then with the current date depicts the historical course of Cyta, with achievements that many telecommunications organisations in countries larger than ours would envy,” Karousos said.

Cyta contributed to the recovery of the local economy since 1974 “with continuous upgrades and the offer of new services” and continues to lead the way in the telecommunications sector the minister said.

“I wish all the organisations to have as an example the historical course of Cyta,” he added.

In her statements, Panou said the authority’s anniversary will be the starting point for new conquests in the future of communications which will lead “the digital future of Cyprus”.

Major infrastructure projects of Cyta include Cyta Fiber optic network and the first 5G commercial network.
