On an overcast September morning in 2020, two friends aching to be on the road after a year of being in lockdown, set off for three lochs in a remote corner of the Scottish Highlands: Loch Maree, Loch Fionn and Loch Fada.

Jamie Barnes and Ian Finch would make their way to what has been referred to as ‘the last wilderness of Scotland’ by canoeing across waterways and portage – carrying their vessels between each body of water.
