Road victim Elena Kyriakou was burned to death after she was trapped in her car following a traffic collision, police said on Monday after a post-mortem was carried out on the young mother of one from Livadia.

Kyriakou, 32, was killed a little after midnight on Sunday after the car she was driving on the Tersephanou road towards the old Larnaca-Limassol road crashed into a tree and then came to a halt in a nearby field, head of Larnaca traffic police Harris Hadjiyiasemi said.

He said the post-mortem was carried out by state forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.

“As a result of the collision, the driver was trapped in her car, where a fire broke out. The car was completely destroyed by the fire. Police and fire fighters went to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire, and free the 32-year-old from the car,” he said.

She was taken to Larnaca General Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Larnaca traffic police are investigating the collision.
