The attorney-general has green-lighted the appointment of investigators to look into complaints against police officers who are members of Edek chairman Marinos Sizopoulos’ security detail in connection with verbal abuse, the independent police watchdog said Friday.
“We have received approval to appoint criminal investigators,” Andreas Paschalides told Alpha television, to look into complaints concerning officers’ behaviour during the party’s district election in Paphos.
Sizopoulos’ cops are accused of verbally abusing a member of the party who complained during the process back in September.
The man told police that he was protesting the removal of two relatives from the party’s members registry when he was verbally abused and thrown out of the venue by members of Sizopoulos’ security detail.
The man did not lodge a formal complaint to the police but chose instead to go straight to the independent watchdog.
