A 32-year-old man sought for the illegal import and possession of drugs with intent to supply was located and arrested abroad, police said on Saturday.
He was being sought in connection to 100kg of cannabis, which the drug squad and SBA police found in a shipping container in Ypsonas back in March 2019.
The container had been placed under surveillance by the drug squad, who alerted the bases police following a tip-off saying that a Bosnian would import a large amount of drugs from Canada.
A European arrest warrant had been issued against the 32-year-old, who was located and arrested abroad.
He was transported to Cyprus early on Saturday morning, was re-arrested at Larnaca airport on a court warrant and taken into custody.
Nine arrests in total were made following the initial drugs seizure.
Six men were arrested on March 18 in connection with the case, two Greek Cypriots aged 49 and 42, two Nigerians aged 36 and 30, a man from Bosnia Herzegovina, 48, who is believed to have brought the drugs into the country, and a Greek Cypriot company owner, 39.
Another three men, 57, 25 and 27, were arrested later on after evidence pointed to their involvement in the case.
The two Nigerians were released without being charged while the rest faced court sentences.
The Limassol drug squad will continue investigations.
