Pafilia, a major developer, was on Tuesday fined €13,000 by the labour inspection office after a fatal work-place injury was blamed on a lack of measures being in place.
Details of the case were not immediately available, but the report pointed out that precautionary measures were not adequately adhered to during excavation to facilitate construction.
The labour office further stated that there was no risk assessment report or instructions from a senior member of staff detailing how to prevent/avoid the possible collapse of walls.
The office found that Pafilia violated health and safety regulations at work, while the incident which led to the fatal injury also endangered others.
The report also said that the company failed to secure the excavation site beyond two metres prior to the workers arriving at the project. It also reportedly failed to carry out assessments detailing the potential risks and hazards of the excavation site.
