Two brothers, aged 44 and 52, were arrested in the north after trying to cross to the government-controlled areas with fake IDs, it emerged on Monday.

The pair arrived from Turkey to the north as tourists, Cyprus News Agency reported citing Kibris Postasi.

It added that on Sunday, they arrived at the Ayios Dometios checkpoint and attempted to cross to the south using forged Belgian identity cards. According to CNA, they bought the fake IDs in Turkey for €3,000.

They were remanded for three days over possession and circulation of forged documents.
