Authorities on Thursday announced two more deaths attributed to Covid-19, while testing tracked 4,349 new positives.

The latest fatalities were two men, aged 85 and 62.

That takes the death toll since March 2020 to 935.

Meanwhile hospitals were treating 195 Covid patients, of whom 25 were said to be in a serious condition. Of the serious cases, seven were intubated and 18 in high-dependency units.

In addition, 13 post-Covid patients (no longer infectious) continued to be on a ventilator.

The health ministry reported that 52.31 per cent of those in hospital did not have a record of vaccination.

The day’s 4,349 positives came from a total of 96,116 tests – for a positivity rate of 4.52 per cent.

Contact tracing detected 142 positives from 1,190 samples; private initiative found 2,883 positives from 44,090 tests; and the health ministry’s screening programmes tracked 1,373 positives from 52,915 tests.

The Test-to-Stay scheme came up with 60 positives from 5,661 tests. And from 1,386 samples taken from nursing homes, 34 turned up positive.

The cumulative number of positives ever detected in Cyprus comes to 430,726.

In the north of the island, authorities reported 921 new positives to the coronavirus from 13,471 tests.

Fifty-three people are being treated for Covid-19 in the north; eight patients are in ICU.
