Police booked 34 people – including for illegal employment — after carrying out checks at 38 premises early on Wednesday as part of coordinated operations in the tourist resorts of Protaras and Ayia Napa aimed at preventing and combating crime and bolstering a sense of security among residents.

During the operations, 51 people were checked and 34 were booked — 11 for illegal employment, 11 for illegal work and one for illegal residence in the Republic.

One establishment was found to be operating without a license from the deputy Ministry of Tourism and one without a licence for the sale of alcohol.

Moreover, three establishments did not have a music licence, two were in violation of closing hours and two were found to be selling alcoholic beverages in violation of their licence.

There were also two cases of illegal drug possession.

Moreover, 18 traffic offences were reported, two involving driving under the influence of drugs and one under the influence of alcohol.
