The number and value of bounced cheques has gone up substantially this year compared to the last, according to data just released by the Central Bank of Cyprus.

From January through to November, the Central Bank of Cyprus tracked cheques that bounced worth €1.453 million – compared to a value of €693,000 during the same period in 2021.

Meanwhile so far this year, 231 persons (individuals and legal entities) have been listed on the Central Information Register for the Issuers of Dishonoured Cheques, maintained by the Central Bank.

This compares to 179 persons listed in 2021, and 186 persons in 2020.

In November of this year, bounced cheques worth €66,121 were issued – compared to €47,010 and €260,353 in October and September, respectively.
