The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence at the Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak) have signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to an announcement by the two parties.

According to the announcement, the memorandum aims to foster collaboration and explore opportunities for developing fundamental and applied research related to innovation in the fields of remote sensing and space monitoring of Cyprus’ agriculture.

In addition, the memorandum acknowledges the benefits that will arise from the partnership, cooperation, and mutual contributions to the advancement and understanding of space, Earth Observation, and Geoinformatics services.

Specifically, this collaboration will encompass cooperation in fundamental academic research concerning Cypriot agriculture, providing mutual access to facilities and data for fundamental academic research purposes.

It will also encourage collaboration and cooperation in projects involving personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence.

Additionally, the agreement aims to support knowledge transfer and training of personnel in related matters.

Furthermore, the announcement explained that the partnership will involve jointly hosting conferences, seminars, and lectures on relevant topics, engaging in joint participation in research programmes on related matters, and facilitating the exchange of scientific information and data.

It is worth noting that this memorandum is set to be in effect for a period of five years, with the potential to significantly contribute to the development and application of innovative technologies in the agricultural sector in Cyprus.

The Cyprus Association for Information Protection and Privacy (CAIPP) and the Cyprus International Business Association (CIBA) are set to host a virtual seminar on November 2, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

This educational event will be presented by Microsoft and will focus on a range of important cybersecurity topics:

The growth rate of the Cypriot economy for the year 2022 has been revised slightly downward from initial estimates, according to a report by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

According to the report, the updated figures indicate that the economic growth rate for 2022 now stands at 5.1 per cent in real terms (volume measurements), down from the previously announced 5.6 per cent in September.

In addition, in current prices, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) exhibited a percentage change of 11.4 per cent.

The positive growth rate, despite the slight downward adjustment, can be primarily attributed to a number of key sectors.

These include hotels and restaurants, information and communication, transportation and storage, wholesale and retail trade, as well as administrative and support service activities.

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Monday, October 23 with losses.

The general Cyprus Stock Market Index was at 127.28 points at 12:43 during the day, reflecting a decrease of 0.29 per cent over the previous day of trading.

The FTSE / CySE 20 Index was at 77.16 points, representing a drop of 0.28 per cent.

The total value of transactions came up to €151,742.

In terms of the sub-indexes, the main and alternative fell by 0.21 per cent and 0.11 per cent respectively. The hotel index rose by 0.39 per cent while the investment firm index remained unchanged.

The biggest investment interest was attracted by the Bank of Cyprus (-0.68 per cent), Hellenic Bank (-0.9 per cent), Salamis Tours (+1.7 per cent), Petrolina (no change), and Agros Development Company (+3.48 per cent).
