Police have arrested the partner of a 45-year-old woman who was discovered with a serious head injury on Wednesday afternoon in an apartment.
According to the police, the 45-year-old woman, who is now in a comatose state, has undergone surgery after she was transported to a private hospital in Limassol on Wednesday afternoon by an ambulance from the apartment where she resides.
Medical examinations revealed that she had a hematoma and fracture on the right side of her head. She underwent surgical intervention and is currently hospitalised at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
In his statement to the police following his arrest, the Serbian partner of the 45-year-old woman mentioned that on Monday night, the two were consuming alcohol and having a good time at the apartment. Later, the woman presented signs of being unwell.
Following his arrest, members of the Limassol immigration police also determined that he was residing illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
Meanwhile, police are still attempting to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the woman’s injury, according to Limassol police spokesperson Lefteris Kyriacou.
Speaking to the media outside the woman’s residence on Thursday, he said that “no circumstances can be excluded”, hinting at possible foul play.
“The woman’s condition is very critical and so far we cannot exclude anything,” Kyriacou said.
Asked to comment on information that the woman and her partner had consumed a large quantity of alcohol in the evening, he said that making scenarios could be premature.
“We are in the very early stages, and we cannot rule out anything, the tests are ongoing, the forensic pathologist examined both the partner and the injured woman, and we are expecting the results.
“We are also likely to carry out more tests,” Kyriacou added.
He then confirmed that police officers also spoke to the pair’s neighbours, as well as to friends and family members.
“We are trying to establish under what circumstances the woman was so critically injured.”
