Over 500 people reached out to the 1480 cybersecurity helpline in the first three months of the year, primarily expressing concerns about cybercrimes such as hacking and identity theft.
According to a bulletin issued on Friday, 25 per cent of the calls were deemed irrelevant. Out of the 519 calls received, 61.4 percent were from females, and 38.6 percent were from males. The vast majority, accounting for 98.4 percent, were made by adults.
Cybercrime was the most common reason for callers seeking assistance, amounting to 77.4 per cent of all calls. They were concerned with hacking, financial fraud and identity theft.
Tech support inquiries accounted for 7.2 per cent of calls, while 5.9 per cent were related to cyberbullying. Additionally, 3.8 per cent of calls for sextortion and 2.8 per cent for data privacy.
