Two teenagers have been arrested in Limassol for their alleged involvement in beating a 64-year-old man and stealing from him, amid concerns about the nature of his relationship with the minors, it emerged on Friday.

One of the girls, aged 15 was remanded in court for six days in a hearing held behind closed doors.

She was arrested on Thursday evening, while the 16-year-old girl was arrested on Friday.

Police are examining the possibility this is a case of sexual exploitation.

The case has sparked a number of questions, with police stressing they were trying to get to the bottom of the nature of their relationship, after it emerged the 16-year-old had gone to visit the older man at his hotel room.

He alleged that she proposed they go out for food but then drove to a dead end, where a group of minors began to beat him and eventually stole his wallet which contained €5,500 in cash and his ID card.

Those that allegedly assaulted him were two males and the 15-year-old who was arrested on Thursday night.

The perpetrators allegedly sprayed him in the face and then began to punch him. Afterwards, they allegedly got in a car and drove off.

The case has prompted a slew of questions as to why the 64-year-old met with a 15-year-old in a hotel room claiming they were friends.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou specified they were also not related.
