A man was killed after being knocked off his bicycle in a hit-and-run incident in the Limassol suburb of Ypsonas on Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the scene at around 8am, finding the dead cyclist upon their arrival.
He was later identified as 42-year-old Iranian national Amin Rashidi Kavanroodi, who had travelled to Cyprus to seek asylum.
Preliminary examinations of the scene showed that it appears the man was run over by a vehicle, which then left the scene.
By Tuesday evening, police said a 71-year-old man had been arrested in connection to the case. He was reportedly driving a truck and told officers he had not realised he hit anyone.
Limassol traffic police head Marios Charalambous said local residents had told police they had heard the accident occur but did not see anything.
He therefore appealed to anyone who had witnessed the incident to inform the police, either by visiting their nearest police station or by calling 1460.
